Penrith lies beneath the Beacon Pike that stands on top of Beacon Fell,
a sandstone outcrop the rich red sandstone of which characterises much
of the town.
The town has a good mix of unusual and traditional shops, where such items as
famed Penrith toffee and fudge can be found.
The area also abounds with the intriguing work of local artists and crafts people.
